Services
Russ Minkemann started his own firm in August of 1980.
His independent spirit laid the foundation for what Minkemann and Associates is today.
In 1981, Russ and partner, Mike Sanders, bought Thomas Walker's accounting practice.
The practice included approximately 200 tax clients and three bookkeepers.
In 1983, they merged with Donna Mathew's firm.
This merger increased their bookkeepers to five and substantially increased their tax clients.
In 1984, Mike sold his portion of the firm to Russ, and Russ became sole owner again.
Russ attended the University of Missouri and majored in Accounting.
He graduated Cum Laude in 1970.
He became an Assistant Accountant for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in St. Louis, Missouri for a short period of time and then served in the military for a couple of years as a Detachment Commander.
After leaving the military, Russ went back to work for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. as Supervising Senior Accountant in Anchorage, Alaska.
From 1977 to 1980, Russ worked for three other Anchorage businesses providing accounting services.
If you own a family business, retirement isn't simply a matter of deciding not to go into the office anymore.
You've got some critical questions to answer like.
The family dynamic complicates the whole transition because of the relationships and emotions involved.
Most people are not comfortable discussing topics such as aging, death, and financial affairs.
Comfortable or not, succession planning should be a priority for any family business considering that more than seven out of ten family-owned businesses fail to survive the transition from founder to second generation, typically falling prey either to estate taxes or family discord - or both.
Opening your own business is exciting and thrilling.
It's everything that comes after the excitement and thrill has worn off that dictates whether a small business will make it or not.
It's up to you to maintain and stretch out the "thrill and excitement" period forever.
A methodical plan of action is needed to fulfill your dream or goal of being your own boss and running a successful business.
Success lies in the approach you choose to take.
We help you avoid the common pitfalls that many new small business owners make when starting their new venture.
Our firm has assisted in many lawsuit, both in federal bankrupty court and state court matters acting as expert witness.
In this capacity, we have review accounting records of business to develop an expert opinion for presentation in court filings.
Both Russ and Nigel have acted in this capacity, and provided testimony before judges and juries as well as in depositions.
Russ has been employed by all of the state of Alaska bankrutcy trustees as their accountant in chapter 11 and 7 bankrutcy proceedings.
