Our founder, Charles Dwight Darby, was born in Lake City, Florida and graduated from the University of Florida. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Airforce as a Lieutenant, where he was a B-24 bombardier and participated in the D-Day Invasion in 1944. He received numerous military honors, including a Purple Heart. Following his military service and college, he moved to Tampa and began a distinguished career as a Certified Public Accountant.
In 1949, 135 candidates took the CPA exam in the State of Florida and only 17 passed. As one of only three in the Tampa Bay area to pass the exam, he became one of Tampa's first CPAs, embarking on a career that spanned a half century by starting Dwight Darby & Company. When he opened the Firm in 1950 his original pledge was, "The founding principle behind Dwight Darby & Company is to assist our clients in running a profitable business."
